James O’Keefe on secret Romney video: ‘an effective tactic that has a place in a democracy
James O'Keefe, the 28-year-old filmmaker known for a series of undercover video stings targeting federally-funded organizations, called the use of secret cameras that captured Mitt Romney's comments at a private fundraiser "an effective tactic that has a place in a democracy." But he accused the news media of using a double standard when covering the new video and when writing about the films he produced. "I think that there's definitely been a double standard amongst professional journalists here because they've been pretty much raking Project Veritas [his company] over the coals for about three years," O'Keefe told Yahoo News during a phone interview from his office in New York. Project Veritas is the organization he founded to produce his videos. "There are no questions about whether Moncler Outlet it [the video of Romney] was dubbed or doctored, whether there are criminal, potentially state crimes committed in the course of taking that camera around, whether somebody left the camera there and walked away." A series of video clips taken surreptitiously during a May fundraiser showed Romney telling donors in Florida that he will "never convince" people who are not eligible to pay income taxes to "take personal responsibility and care for their lives." These Americans, who Romney characterized as Obama supporters, "are dependent upon government...believe that they are victims...believe the government has a responsibility to care for them," Romney said. The videos, taken by an anonymous source and popularized by the left-leaning Mother Jones magazine on Tuesday, received so much media coverage that Romney called an emergency press conference on Tuesday night to discuss his remarks. One of the nation's most notorious young political filmmakers, O'Keefe first made a name for himself in 2009 when he filmed employees of the advocacy group ACORN offering advice to what they were told was a couple seeking to establish a brothel using Moncler Maillol underage girls. In response, Congress voted to cut off federal funding for ACORN. In January 2010, O'Keefe was arrested when he posed as a telephone repairman at the New Orleans offices of Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu. The congresswoman had told constituents that her phone lines were not functioning, and O'Keefe intended to prove that the phones were working properly. He was caught during production and received a misdemeanor for entering a federal building under false pretenses. O'Keefe's exploits made him a hero among conservatives, but they invited a wave of scrutiny from the left. An article posted on the liberal Salon.com, for instance, tried to paint him as a racist. Several media outlets incorrectly printed stories that he was a convicted felon, and others dismissed his videos because they were "selectively edited." While O'Keefe's videos were edited, he made it a Womens Moncler Vests common practice to provide raw video online. Mother Jones released the full video of Romney on Wednesday, taking "a page out of the Breitbart playbook," after "releasing the tapes one at a time," O'Keefe said. "I have been required to release everything. All my source material," O'Keefe told Yahoo News. "And I've even been accused by these same journalists of committing crimes in the course of conducting my investigations. Journalists have to learn to be consistent."

"We are going to be demonstrating in defiance. We will not be intimidated." Christopher Tsatsawane, a spokesman for Xstrata Alloys, said the situation in Rustenburg remained tense. "As our employees were coming to work, there has been intimidation which is all over Rustenburg," he said, adding that only 10 percent of its chrome mine's employees reported for work at the weekend due to intimidation. Xstrata and other platinum mines in the area have been hit by wildcat strikes since police killed 34 miners at Lonmin's Marikana platinum mine on August 16, the bloodiest police action since the end of apartheid in 1994. A total of 45 people have been killed in the unrest. Police raided a Lonmin hostel on Saturday and seized spears, machetes and other weapons from strikers. Stubborn wildfires vex crews across the West
Firefighters battled stubborn blazes that kept residents from homes in Montana, Wyoming and Washington as authorities worried the weather could worsen the volatile situation. High temperatures, lower humidity and greater instability increase the potential for fires to grow, said Ed Delgado, the national predictive services meteorologist for the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. "Our biggest concern right now is existing fires," he said. "We're not expecting lightning over the next few days, although that doesn't alleviate the potential for human-caused fires, especially as we get into camping and hunting seasons." Seven homes were destroyed and hundreds of people were evacuated near Casper, Wyo., where a wildfire Moncler Outlet burned almost 24 square miles. In western Montana, fire crews were struggling to control a blaze that prompted an evacuation order for 400 houses west of Hamilton. In eastern Washington, a grass and sagebrush fire that ballooned from 11,000 acres to more than 60,000 — or 95 square miles — before winds died down was blamed for destroying three homes near Grand Coulee, a fire official said. As winds eased, crews were hopeful they could gain ground on dozens of fires sparked by weekend lightning storms. But more evacuation orders were issued Tuesday as a wildfire moved into the hills west of Wenatchee, a fruit capital on the banks of the Columbia River. More than 150 homes were evacuated as the fire burned about 140 miles east of Seattle. About 160 firefighters gathered to help fight the blaze, which covered 1,000 acres. Only a shed has been lost near Wenatchee, and no injuries were reported at what appeared to be the most threatening of numerous lightning-sparked wildfires in the state. In Montana, Sawtooth Fire spokesman Gregg DeNitto with the U.S. Forest Service said there was no word on when residents there might be allowed to return. The fire exploded over the past two days from just over 1 square mile to more than 6, although no houses were reported lost. DeNitto said most threatened houses were a half-mile to one mile from the fire's edge. An estimated 1,000 people live within the evacuated area, although Ravalli County Commissioner Womens Moncler Vests Suzy Foss said not all of them left. Of those who fled, most were staying with friends, relatives or acquaintances, Foss said. Only a couple of residents spent the night at a Red Cross shelter set up in Hamilton for evacuees, DeNitto said. Firefighters got help from the weather in Wyoming, where cooler temperatures and calmer winds bought time to put more people and equipment into action around two large fires. As many as 750 homes were threatened by the large wildfire near Casper. Some 400 people were evacuated from 150 homes. In central Oregon, smoke settled in the town of Sisters for about six hours Tuesday as crews battled a forest fire on about 4,300 acres southwest of town. Sisters has about 2,000 residents and is a center for tourists and outdoor recreation. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said atmospheric conditions — a temperature inversion — could mean poor air quality in the mornings through Saturday. Residents of a subdivision west of Sisters have been warned that they might have to evacuate, but the Cheap Moncler Jackets fire has not yet advanced on populated areas. Blazes have scorched more than 8.1 million acres across the West so far this year, up from the 10-year average of 6.1 million acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
